Set up PureTrack at home
PureTrack is your backup live tracking, and it is mandatory at every Chabre Club competition. Set it up on your sofa the week before you travel, and there is one thing left to do on task day. Get both right and, if the day ever goes wrong, we know exactly where you are.
01 What PureTrack is
PureTrack is a free tracking platform that gathers position data from many different sources, phone apps, flight instruments, varios and satellite trackers, and shows every pilot on one shared map. Your family can follow you, the organisation can see the whole field at a glance, and if you land out, the map holds your last known position.
It does not care which device you use. A phone app, a Flymaster or Syride vario, an InReach or SPOT satellite tracker, they all feed the same map. You can even run two at once, a fast cellular app and a slower satellite tracker, so you stay visible where phone signal drops.
02 Set it up at home
Do this once, before you travel. It takes about ten minutes.
- Go to puretrack.io and create a free account in your full real name, first name and surname. Not a nickname, not your glider colour.
- Add your device or app. Pick your path below.
- Give the device your real name, so we and search and rescue recognise you on the map.
- Join the group for your event, named for the event itself, for example "Flymaster XC Challenge 2026" or "Belgian B Paragliding Open 2026".
Add your device or app
Every device has its own short guide on PureTrack. Open the one that matches what you fly with:
- No tracker? Use your phone. The simplest option, and free. Install SportsTrackLive, the PureTrack app for iOS, or Traccar Client, then connect it to your account. Keep the phone charged and out of airplane mode for the whole flight.
- You fly with XCTrack. Enable XContest live tracking in the app and join the PureTrack XContest group. Full steps: puretrack.io/help/xcontest.
- You have a vario. Flymaster, Syride or Skytraxx. Add it from Flymaster, Syride, or Skytraxx on the trackers page.
- You carry a satellite tracker. Garmin InReach, SPOT or Zoleo. Add it from InReach, SPOT, or Zoleo. Slower to update, but works with no phone signal, so it is a strong second source.
Not sure what you have? The full list is at puretrack.io/trackers.
03 The step pilots forget
Setting up your account and joining the group does not track you. It only tells PureTrack who you are. On task day you still have to start tracking on the device itself, every task, or the map shows nothing at all.
So before you launch, every task:
- Open your tracking app or switch your vario or satellite tracker on.
- Start tracking, and start every device you are carrying.
- Check the map and confirm your own dot, under your own name, is there and moving.
04 Check it works
Before the first task, prove to yourself that you show up. Walk outside with your device tracking, open chabreclub.fr/live or puretrack.io, find your name, and watch the dot move as you walk. If you can see yourself, so can we. If you cannot, fix it on the ground, not in the air.
Quick recap
Before you leave home
- PureTrack account created, in your full real name
- Your device or app added and named with your real name
- Event group joined
- Tested outside: you saw your own dot move on the map
Before every task
- Start tracking on your device, and on every device you carry
- Confirm your dot is moving before you launch
- Phone charged, out of airplane mode, for the whole flight
